Impressive German Gentleman’s Miniature Medal Chain “Frackkette” with Four Medals

Here on offer is a fine example of a German gentleman’s miniature medal chain, known as a “Frackkette”, fitted with four medals.

A Frackkette (or Frackkettchen) is a traditional German miniature medal chain designed to be worn with civilian evening formal wear, specifically a tailcoat or tuxedo, strictly for formal civilian social etiquette.

It features precision-crafted miniature replicas of military or civil awards—typically scaled down to roughly 15mm to 16mm—suspended from a delicate, fine-link precious metal or silvered/gilded bronze chain.
They are usually secured with a small buttonhole toggle or needle pin on one end and a pin or lapel attachment on the other, allowing it to drape across the lapel or pocket of civilian formal attire. An example of which is shown being worn in my last photo.

This fine example displays four historical awards, that are:

1) WWI Black Wound Badge
2) WW2 German Nazi-era award (resembling a variant of a civil/social service cross),
3) The 1914-1918 World War Honour Cross (Hindenburg Cross) instituted in 1934 for WW1 veterans.
4) Imperial German State Service Cross.

This example is in excellent condition and has a long fixing pin at each end of a fine gilt bronze chain.

The chain measures 2.5” (6.3cm) long and it weighs 8g.
