Vintage Stainless Steel Rigging Knife with 2.75” Blade, Shackle Key and Screwdriver, named to NIGEL c1960
Here on offer is a vintage British stainless steel sailor’s rigging knife with 2.75” blade, shackle key and screwdriver, circa 1960.
There is no maker that I can see on the knife, just on the front grip plate, it is marked with:
STAINLESS THROUGHOUT
It has a 2.75” blade and flat screwdriver head at the pivot end.
There is also a shackle key that has the owner’s name: NIGEL curding stamped on one side and at the bottom it is stamped with a British registration number:
Rd. No. 895076
This dates the design registration to circa 1960.
This knife clearly has been used, by NIGEL, but still retaining a clean cutting edge on the blade.
The blade and tool fold into the grip, making it compact and easy to carry version, being more unusual in that it doesn’t have a marlin spike.
I have lightly oiled (with gun oil) the blade/tool joints.
The blade cutting edge measures 2.2” (5.5cm) long and the knife when closed is 3.85” (9.7cm) long, excluding the lanyard ring.
It weighs 130g.
