Unusual Antique Central African Tribal Dagger with 4.5” Leaf Shaped Blade and Skin Covered Sheath

Here on offer is an unusual antique Central African tribal dagger, featuring a forged iron leaf-shaped blade and a wooden grip wrapped in a continuous coil of a brass, complete with a skin covered sheath.

The hand-forged iron, double-edged leaf shaped blade, with a central raised spine. Both edges retain a sharp cutting edge and interestingly it has a serrated edge on the lower curved section. It is in excellent condition, now with some dark age staining.

The grip has a carved wood base, tightly bound with a continuous coil of brass strip and is decorated on the beak shaped pommel with small brass studs.

The sheath is made of wood with a ball shaped tip, that is covered in what looks to be hand tooled snake skin, stitched along one edge. It has a small section above the ball, that has the same coil of brass as on the grip, it has just suffered some mis-shaping over the years.

The blade measures 4.5” (11.4cm) long and the dagger is 7.5” (19cm) in total length.

It weighs 60g.
