Vintage Commando Style Knife with Stiletto Blade, Stacked Brass and Leather Grip and Custom “Indian Chief” Leather Sheath
Here on offer is a fine example of a vintage commando style stiletto knife with a stiletto blade, stacked brass and leather grip and custom “Indian Chief” leather sheath.
There is no makers mark on this example but it was most probably manufactured by William Rodgers of Sheffield.
It has an excellent 6” double edged stiletto type blade with a mirror bright finish. It just has some very slight scratch marks to the finish.
Both sides of the ricasso are stamped with:
MADE IN
SHEFFIELD
ENGLAND
That now is only partially readable. I suspect that the makers name (William Rodgers) should have been applied to one side and this just a manufacturing error, with both sides being stamped the same.
It is fitted with an oval shaped polished brass finger guard.
The grip has been made up of about 20 tapering brass discs separated with black plastic dices and finished at the top and bottom with a thick red plastic disc, as well as one in the middle.
At the top it is fitted with a solid slightly lipped oval shaped polished aluminium pommel that secures the blade tang with a recessed hexagonal brass nut at the top.
It comes with a custom made brown leather stitched and riveted sheath, with a slotted belt loop and retaining strap with a press stud fixing. The front has an embossed image of an American Indian Chief’s head.
The knife is in excellent condition and makes a great collector’s piece.
The blade measures 6” (15.3cm) long and the knife itself is a total of 10.6” (27cm) long.
Including the sheath, it weighs 225g.
