WW1 Belgium Trench Art Sweetheart 1914 Coin Brooch with green and Red Paste Stones

Here on offer is a WW1 Belgium trench art sweetheart 1914 coin brooch, set with green and red paste stones.

Two Belgian 5 Centime coins clearly displaying the obverse inscription "ROYAUME DE BELGIQUE" and dated 1910.

The brooch has been constructed using at the top, what appear to be two Belgian 10 centimes pieces, dated 1914 and bearing the inscription "ROYAUME DE BELGIQUE”. There are green faceted stones mounted through their centres and a red stone set into the central crowned ornament.

Then below there is a suspension chain that has a pendant drop, being a Belgian 1 Centime coin featuring the national motto "L'UNION FAIT LA FORCE" ("Unity Makes Strength") alongside the iconic seated Belgian Lion resting its paw on the 1831 Constitution tablet. This coin is clearly dated 1914 which was a momentous year of the German invasion and heroic Belgian resistance.

On the reverse it still retains its original long fixing pin and “C” clasp.

The top coins and centre crown look to have been silver plated, with some loss now showing on the coin edges.

The brooch measures 1.8” (4.6cm) wide and weighs 9g.
