Vintage Souvenir Stag Antler Boot Knife with Original Leather Sheath – A. PETER PASSAU Germany c1930
Here on offer is a great example of a vintage souvenir stag antler boot knife, with its original leather sheath.
The grip is made from a fine solid section of stag antler horn.
A tapered ribbed polished nickel silver ferrule connects the grip to the blade.
It has a nickel silver rib edged pommel cap, that has been pressed in at the very top and now also has a small hole in it.
The 4” single edged blade is in great condition but does have a lot of light scratch marks and some dark staining to the finish.
There is no maker’s mark on the blade, but it is stamped on one side with:
A. PETER
PASSAU
Passau is in southeastern Germany, right on the Austrian border in the state of Bavaria.
A. Peter doesn’t appear to be a German knife maker and may be just a retailer of such souvenir blades?
The brown leather sheath has upper and lower ribbed nickel silver mounts, that are in excellent condition.
From the look and feel of this knife, I think it was probably made back in the 1930’s as a souvenir piece, but there are genuine photos of WW2 German soldiers using these as “boot knives” during that conflict.
The blade measures 4” (10.2cm) long and the knife is 8” (20.3cm) in total length.
It weighs 90g.
