WW2 Souvenir Bookends made from salvaged Portland Stone from the Houses of Parliament after the Blitz bombings during May 1941
Here on offer is a pair of WW2 Souvenir bookends made from salvaged Portland stone from the Houses of Parliament, after a number of German Luftwaffe “Blitz” bombings during May 1941.
These fine bookends were crafted from salvaged Portland stone by London Stonecraft Ltd and were sold to raise funds for the Duke of Gloucester's Red Cross and St. John fund.
These bookends feature on the front; lead rosettes apparently made from the lead from the damaged roof. Each rosette has the wording:
THIS STONE CAME FROM THE
HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT
Both bookends are in excellent condition and retain the original green felt covering on the base.
They each measure 6” (15.2cm) high by 5” (12.5cm) wide and 2” (5cm) deep. They have 2.5” (6.3) diameter lead rosettes.
Together they weigh a heavy 3.4Kg.
