Near Mint Original WW2 German K98 Dress Bayonet with Etched Blade by Eickhorn with Scabbard and Leather Frog

Here on offer is a near mint original WW2 German K98 dress bayonet with etched blade by Carl Eickhorn, with a black painted scabbard and dark leather frog.

This fine example has a 9.75” single-edged nickel plated blade, with a flat spine above a deep single fuller on both sides.
On one side it is beautifully etched with a central scroll surrounded by oak leaves and is set with the inscription:

ZUR ERINNERUNG AN MEINE DIENSTZEIT (To Commemorate My Time Of Service).

Then at one end it has the national eagle, with outstretched wings and Swastika and at the other end, an oak wreath with crossed rifles and a Heer helmet.

On the other side of the blade, it has a plain mirrored finish and on the ricasso it is stamped with the famous Original Eickhorn Solingen, “seated squirrel with sword” logo, for Carl Eickhorn, used between 1935 and 1941.

The blade is in near mint condition, with just a tiny area of light pitting near the logo, that would probably polish bright? There are also some very light scabbard runner scratch marks near the tip, caused when the blade is inserted in the scabbard.

It still retains its original the leather buffer pad that has ensured and airtight seal, while the blade is stored in the scabbard.

The crossguard with upturned quillion and the bird-beck pommel are in mint condition, retaining all their plating. The press-stud locking mechanism is in full working order and the rifle slot has a red felt insert, as used with dress bayonets.

The chequered black Bakelite grip scales are in mint condition and are held firmly in place by two domed plated rivets.

The metal scabbard retains nearly all of its gloss black paint finish with no dents, but now shows signs of “spidering” under the paint finish. It sits nicely in the original dark leather frog that now has a rough surface finish, but is sound and still has its retaining strap and stud.

This is just a fine and genuine example of WW2 period etched dress bayonet, by Carl Eickhorn, that would make a great addition to any collection.

The blade measures 9.75” (24.8cm) and the whole bayonet is 14.5” (36.8cm) long.

With the scabbard and frog, it weighs 540g.
