Fine British WW2 P39 Home Guard Brown Leather Bayonet Frog by CS(W) Ltd dated 1940

Here on offer is an original near mint, British WW2 P39 Home Guard tan brown leather bayonet frog by CS(W) Ltd and dating to 1940.

These bayonet frogs were issued initially in 1939 for use with the P1907, P13 and P17 bayonets and primarily used by the British Home Guard.

This fine near mint bayonet frog is the best example I have ever owned. It shows no signs of use and now just has some slight darkening to the brown leather finish at the top.

On the back above the eight rivets, it is stamped with:

CS(W) Ltd
1940

Along with a broad arrow (crow’s foot) and the number 66.

The marking CS(W) Ltd stands for the “Co-operative Wholesale Society” (CWS) Ltd, who were a massive consumer co-operative that pivoted its extensive network of over 180 civilian manufacturing facilities to assist in the British war effort.

The "CS(W) Ltd" mark is most commonly found on authentic pieces of Home Front and battlefield emergency equipment

During WW2 the British government required unprecedented quantities of field gear. Therefore, standard household manufacturers and industrial co-ops were contracted to produce high-priority emergency equipment.

The leather on this example is in excellent original condition, with all the stitching and rivets in place.

It measures 8.5” (21.6cm) long and weighs 70g.
