Unusual Vintage Multi-Tool Set in Leather Wrap Case marked MILBRO c1950
Here on offer is an unusual vintage Multi-Tool Set in a brown leather wrap case, marked MILBRO (Milard Brothers), circa 1950.
I can’t find another such example of a Milbro tool set and personally feel the it may have been made in Germany by such makers as J.A. Henckels and then retailed by Milbro in the 1950’s? None of the tools are maker marked.
Milbro (Millard Brothers Ltd) was founded in 1887 by Oliver and Samuel Millard, the company manufactured budget-friendly air rifles, air rifle pellets, and catapults, as well as historical fishing tackle and sporting goods, from their factory in Motherwell, Scotland.
This tool set has 11 separate items, consisting of:
10 interchangeable tools with a wood gripped handle that are designed to “lock” the tool in place while in use. The tool can be released by pressing the lock back latch on the edge of the handle. A very clever design!
These interchangeable tools consist of, 2 x drills, screwdriver, saw (with inch measure cover), hammer, flat file, corkscrew, chisel, spike and a leather cover knife blade.
The tools have been used and the drills have slightly bent shafts and the chisel has a chipped blade edge. All the others are in excellent condition, with just some signs of light surface age darkening.
All the tools are retained with loops inside a brown leather folding wrap/roll case, with a “fold in” suede flap, that has some small holes.
It is held closed with two press studs and has the oval Milbro logo embossed in gold on the top edge.
The case does have some scuffs/dents and shows some wear to the edges, which you would expect given it is now over 75 years old.
This is a great opportunity to obtain this rare Milbro quality tool set, especially as it is “complete”, which is rare to find these days.
For an indication of size, the wooden grip measures 3.75” (9.5cm) long and the knife blade is 3.5” (9cm) long.
When closed, the wrap case measures 4.3” (11cm) square and with all the tolls, weighs 342g.
