Souvenir RAF Afghanistan Letter Opener made using a .50 Cal Machine Gun Cartridge Case c2009

Here on offer is a modern souvenir “Trench Art” letter opener, that has been made using a .50 Cal machine gun cartridge case.

I was told this cartridge case originated from a RAF ground defence regiment, .50 calibre machine gun, that was used in the Afghanistan conflict, circa 2009.

The fired cartridge case is in excellent condition and has been fitted on the front, with the top of a RAF button, with eagle crest and crown.

On the base it is stamped with the ordinance information:

IK 09
50

IK: Manufacturer code for Igman (located in Konjic, Bosnia and Herzegovina).

09: Year of manufacture (2009).

.50: Caliber designation indicating .50 Browning
Machine Gun (.50 BMG), also known a 12.7×99mm NATO.

The open end has been fitted with a 2.75” polished steel blade, with a curved cutting edge.

The whole piece is in near mint condition, with just one tiny nick to the cutting edge.

An unusual and highly collectable piece from the Afghanistan conflict that will only increase in value.

The blade measures 2.75” (7cm) and the whole dagger is 6.7” (17cm) long.

It weighs 70g.
